Driving Equality Forward: A Note from Our President for Pride
We believe that everyone deserves to be who they are, without judgment or limitation, and we envision a day when the rights of all people—including the LGBTQ community—will not only be guaranteed, but celebrated.
Our brand was built on the idea of making cities smarter, more innovative, and all around better places to live for everyone. That’s why we’ve long supported equal rights for all, including for our members, employees, and friends in the LGBTQ community. It’s been a long road, and we know there are many more miles ahead.
For Pride Month 2016, Zipcar is joining forces with GLAAD to drive equality forward by raising awareness and advocating for equal rights for the transgender community.
The experiences of the transgender community are alarming:
- Transgender people are four times more likely to live in poverty.
- Transgender people experience unemployment at twice the rate of the general population.
- While on the job, 90 percent have reported harassment, mistreatment, or discrimination.
- Transgender people still cannot serve in the U.S. Military.
Dignity and respect are fundamental in building a sustainable community—that’s true in our community of car sharers, and it’s true in our world.

Happy Pride and see you on the road.
